Q

The other day I noticed a very small hummingbird/bee sort of creature on one of the flowers. It acted like a hummingbird taking the pollen but it looked like a bee or a moth. It had tranparent wings that move to fast to be seen, it had to rust clored rings on it's lower body, and it seemed to be unconcerned by my getting very close to get a good look. I have never seen anything like this before and I am searching for information.Any idea what this might have been.

Thanks, and I enjoyed your site.

A Glad you enjoyed our web site. What you described sounds like a sphinx moth. Many people confuse them with hummers.

Yesterday we were buying flowers for our hummingbird garden and saw several of these interesting creatures sipping nectar. We bought the flowers that the moth liked.
